John T. Blankinship, CFP®

JTBJohn T. Blankinship, CFP ®, Chairman, has been in the financial services industry since 1969.  He began his practice as a financial planner in 1974 when he founded Blankinship & Associates and helped found Blankinship & Foster,  the successor firm to Blankinship & Associates, in 1989.  He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee.

Mr. Blankinship is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance in 1959 and his Master of Science Degree in Economics in 1964.  He served in the United States Navy Reserve as an officer from 1959-1963.

Mr. Blankinship is a Past-President (1982-1983) of the San Diego Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP).  During 1989-1991 Mr. Blankinship served as President and Chairman of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP).  The IAFP and the ICFP merged in 2000 to form the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

Mr. Blankinship served on the Board of Governors of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards from 1988 to 1995.  He served as President and Chairman in 1994/1995 and as Chairman of the International CFP Council in 1996.

Mr. Blankinship has written articles on financial planning for various publications and magazines. He has given numerous presentations and seminars on financial planning across the United States and has been a speaker at many of his profession’s leading national and regional conventions and symposiums.  He is often quoted in national media. He is the co-author of The Six Cups-How to Manage Your Money, published in 1992.

Mr. Blankinship has been named as one of the United States’ best financial advisers by Money Magazine, Worth Magazine, Medical Economics, Mutual Fund Magazine, and Bloomberg Wealth Manager magazines.

The Institute of Certified Financial Planners presented Mr. Blankinship its P. Kemp Fain Award in July 1996, “ for his valuable contributions to the Institute and the financial planning profession at large”.

Mr. Blankinship served on the Financial Advisory Service Board of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. in 1992 and 1993. 

Mr. Blankinship also served on the Corporate Board of Directors of San Diego Catholic Charities 1985-2002 and was a member of the organization’s Finance Committee for fifteen years.  He was a member of the Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego from 1995-2000.  He has also served as a member of the Scripps Health Investment Committee.
