Rick Brooks, CFA®, CFP® is VP, Investment Management. He has been helping clients with their financial affairs since 1996, following 6½ years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He joined Blankinship & Foster in 2004.
In addition to managing client portfolios, Rick oversees the firm’s investment analytics and serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee. He served as Chief Compliance Officer from 2005-2008.
Rick has worked for several San Diego investment advisory firms, providing portfolio management, financial planning and related services. He has also provided consulting on the design, implementation and management of qualified retirement plans, including 401(k), profit sharing and pension plans.
Rick is a past President of the CFA Society of San Diego and has served on its Board of Directors in various capacities since 2001. Rick is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), CFA Institute and the Estate Planning Council of San Diego. Rick served on the San Diego Foundation's Professional Advisor Council and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts, San Diego Imperial Council, and serves on their Investment Committee.
Rick is a graduate of Duke University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1989. He served in the United States Navy for 6½ years, completing his service as a Lieutenant. After leaving the Navy in 1996, he earned his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), with a concentration in Finance, from San Diego State University in 1997.
Rick is licensed to use the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) mark by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. He has earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) awarded by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, and is a contributing columnist for The Presidio Sentinel, a community newspaper serving the Mission Hills and Point Loma areas.
